The Consultative Council assembles high-level building community representatives to make recommendations directly to the executive and legislative branches of government to improve our nation’s buildings and infrastructure.
Each year, the Consultative Council publishes the Moving Forward Report to investigate key issues, offering solutions to overcoming these challenges. The 2024 Moving Forward Report looks closely at two critical access challenges facing the building industry: (1) Clean Water and Sanitation and (2) Housing Affordability.
To bring together industry leaders and experts from across the built environment to improve our nation’s infrastructure and buildings
To assemble experts who identify key issues they believe will be facing the industry in the year ahead
To develop and publish a yearly report that offers solutions to key challenges the built environment faces
The council provides a forum for regular interaction and discussion among key organizations. These organizations represent consumers, architects, engineers, government officials, contractors, researchers, and housing officials.

During this hearing by the NIBS Consultative Council, attendees learned about the causes of and the solutions to the housing affordability crisis in America. The hearing was open to the public. NIBS has published a report of hearing events and key findings.
Infrastructure continues to be one of the biggest topics through recent policy changes, media coverage, and the passed legislation
Bringing America back to work and restarting the economy will take planning and vision. Any movement in the direction toward reentering and repopulating buildings, businesses, and transportation systems must follow the health and safety guidelines set forth by science and data, the federal government, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and World Health Organization. To meet this challenge, the Consultative Council sponsored a series of COVID-19 virtual town halls.
